The Farming Challenge

An educational Institution should be a trail blazer as we move into a totally new economic environment. Without farmers who can achieve a profitable lifestyle the rural economy will collapse and they will leave the dales, moors and mountains taking with them their unique commitment and knowledge.

 

Co-operation must be a way forward. It has been given lip service for fifty years but to no avail. Now is the time to exploit its power. The RMIF, NEG with other partners are already working on the linking of upland and arable farms with a DEFRA application in for funding to assist.

 

The College is currently reappraising its course based around food which could open up possibilities for links with the farm production.

 

Genetic improvement and animal health must be at the forefront of any plans for the next five years
