Kirkley is a LEAF Farm, it has whole farm plan and is in the ELS.
Dinnington is a conservation area with no fertilisers, sprays or over grazing adjacent to Newcastle Airport.
Carlcroft Moorland management scheme for heather regeneration and rebuilding dykes ran out in 2001 and was replaced with a 10 year Countryside stewardship plan through to 2011. This has involved reducing the sheep stock on the hill, restricting cattle grazing to just three months in summer along with bracken control using helicopters and wall building. There is a Farm Woodland Premium Scheme run by MoD but with a compensatory payment of £1134 for loss of land. There is of course also the SFP and LFA support payment.
